While banks pay attention to the attacks targeted at their customers by installing anti-skimming devices, cyber-criminals are busy deploying and perfecting sophisticated malware and trojans to steal money from the bank directly, through the ATM, POS and self-service terminals.
These soft but highly yielding e-channel attacks originated in Europe and have not yet been unleashed on Nigerian terminals. Prevention is cheaper than cure.

How it holds the terminal
It works by constraining what may execute and what may be changed, rather than by recognising malware that has already been seen elsewhere.

- Control over program code changes, so that an application cannot launch if its executable code has been modified.
- Executable code protection
- Executable modules are protected against modification by other applications.
- Application data protection
- Read and write access to an application's data files and registry keys can be disabled for every other application.
